Vienna Psychoanalytic Society (VPS)
The Vienna Psychoanalytic Society (VPS) was founded by Sigmund Freud and his group of disciples as a scientific society in 1908. It is therefore the first and oldest psychoanalytic society world-wide.
As founding member of the International Psychoanalytical Association (IPA), the Vienna Psychoanalytic Society is committed to the high standards of the latter and is also firmly established in an international scholarly network.
As a scientific society, the VPS‘s main tasks include training, scholarly debate and exchange with colleagues both at national and international level, as well as the promotion of research and development of psychoanalysis.
In the clinical field of treatment of patients, the individual members of the VPS and the staff of the Vienna Psychoanalytic Outpatient Clinic provide qualified councelling and treatment.
Internationally approved training requirements, continuing professional development and scholarly exchange within the IPA ensure the high professional standards that the VPS members adhere to in their work as qualified psychoanalysts.
The official job title in Austria is psychotherapist, followed by „psychoanalysis/psychoanalytical psychotherapy“.
